~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Welcome to visitors from Leicester, Massachusetts, USA ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

PERSONAL NOTICES:

If you're an Ex-Patriot, please leave a message in the Guest Book; it's the main reason for this website, and I love to here from expats all around the world, so make my day.  If you leave some details about your old neighbourhood, school, work, etc., I'll put them in the Ex-Pats' Log Book - PDQ.

Please note, this website is best viewed with Explorer and most definitely best viewed at a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels (higher is OK, but not lower).

Click on one of the flags or logos and help move Leicester Overseas into the top 10 of one or more of

these international Topsites.

They reset the ranking to zero every 5 days so keep on clicking (once a week would be nice - thank you).

That Who's Who and the Bulletin Board Expats' Log Book have been re-organised to make them easier to navigate and shorter to download. Who's Who now has an Index of names indicating the section where you can find the person listed.

Please check out the new  Who's Who.

That a few naughty  - recent and not-so-recent - visitors to the Leicester Overseas Bulletin Board did not leave E-mails (dreadfully hard to contact you with out one me duck) or left E-mails that don't work

(please check your entry in the various International sections of the Expats' Log Book).

Don't make me use a bigger font - don't make me come over there.

"Language Timothy!"

(My Rant)

Don't worry you won't find objectionable language or any untoward material at this website (but I do so love the expression "Sod Off" - thank you Daphne - sorry Mum). I might have the odd "Terets Syndrome" moment myself, but I certainly don't appreciate the trend towards the egregious and gratuitous use of bad language - especially from such young children nowadays. Are parents afraid of the word "No"? Which part of it don't they understand? I had my mouth washed out with soap just for calling my sister Angela a "big fat cow." I pleaded with my mum that I had only called her a "big fat buffalo."  Talk about a punishment with a lasting impression. And while I'm on a role, you won't find any of that self-satisfied brand of Canadian rudeness against Americans here either. Wow! I really need that break real soon. I'm on my way down to see you Mum - get the soap ready.

REVIEW:

The following is a review of the five main sections of the Leicester Overseas Website:

Bulletin Board

The idea for an ex-pats bulletin board came from frequent visits the one at the Leicester Mercury's web site This is Leicestershire; however, at this location, your messages won't disappear after just a couple of weeks. They will be saved and archived. On the main page of this section you will find how to access easy to follow lists of all the people (128 so far) by country who have left details about their old neighbourhood, school or work, etc. You never know, you may be surprised who you may contact. A few words about yourself in the Guest Book, may lead to you contacting an old friend, neighbour or acquaintance or perhaps and old school chum or workmate.

About the Artist

In this section you can take a nostalgic look at old Leicester through the eyes and words of local artist David Weston. His work was an inspiration for this site and David's unique view of our home town is especially poignant if you grew up in the Leicester area before the early sixties. If on the other hand you grew up at a later date, not to worry, here's a chance to get a glimpse of your heritage: that which has stood for hundreds of years and that which stands only in our memories. New images will be added to this section during June/July.

Who's Who

Who's Who in Leicester and Leicestershire.  In this section there is an extensive list of around 136 entries with information about people who range from the high-profile and world-famous (Engelbert, Thomas Cook, the Attenboroughs) to the not-so-well known: John Carey Merrick (The Elephant Man),  Dick Turpin (The Highwayman), George Fox (founder of the Quakers), Thomas Hooker (Father of American Democracy) and William Brown (mutineer aboard the Bounty). These are just a very few of the notable people in "Who's Who."

Leicester Links

This section will link you up with some of the very best of the ever increasing list of quality internet sites that make up "Leicester on the Web."  I am sure there are many more, and the work of finding them is ongoing.  If you have a favourite Leicester website that you would like see added to this links page, please let me know.

Nostalgia Junction

Even if you are not a railway buff, I am sure you will enjoy the railway art of David Weston. Check out the Master Cutler (my favorite) as it steams out of Leicester Central Station in the early fifties. Nostalgia Junction is dedicated to the memory of the days of steam railways.

Visitors to Leicester Overseas Home Page in the first 23 weeks:

Average to date: 28 visitors per day

And you're dead wrong, they weren't all me mum neither - so shurrup will yuh?

Any road on, when you're next feeling a bit nostalgic or home sick, make a "cuppa," pull up a chair, sit yuhself down, and see what (or who) you can find. If you approve, please pass the word, make a link (I'll reciprocate) or just bookmark this home page.

NOTICE:

Please check out the new section [The Market Place] for information on "Paid to Surf" and other programs:

I personally use these types of programs because I spend a lot of time on line, managing and doing research for Leicester Overseas, writing and answering E-mails and just plain old surfing. So why shouldn't I (or you for that matter) get paid to surf and for other times spent at the computer.

The best example of a "Paid to Surf" program is this one from AllAdvantage. This company started the whole "Paid to Surf" thing and they are consistently ranked among the very best of these types of programs; they have a proven record of reliability. Try this one, and if you like it, get back to me and I will give you other recommendations.

However, don't wait too long to get in on this one:

They are signing up thousands per day and who knows how soon the promotion will end or be fully subscribed. BePaid is promising to pay between $20 and $120 per hour to look at real advertisements. Join now, the program is free and it becomes active in May or June.
