(referral program evaluations)

Helping people to evaluate and make choices about the many "Paid to Surf" and other "Paid to..." referral type programs on the Internet.

This page has been trimmed down considerably to get rid of all of the BS.

 "Paid to Surf"  Programs:

I have chosen the following types of programs because I spend a lot of time on line, managing and doing research for the Leicester Overseas website (see banner at the bottom of this page) writing and answering E-mails or just plain old surfing. So why shouldn't I (or you for that matter) get paid to surf and for other times spent at the computer. You can at least make enough money to pay for your ISP service, and maybe enough for website hosting and/or a high speed connection.

Please take the time to consider these programs below. I will try as many as I can and let you know how they are performing. The following are suggestions only, and I make no guarantee of success. I will try and give you an honest assessment of the programs that I am running; that is, when I see how they are performing myself. I personally run five of these types of programs (at once) at home and two at work. The ones that I am currently trying out are previewed below; they are Desktop Dollars (the best so far), PayBar (the worst), GetPaid4 (pretty good), AllAdvantage (very stable company) and GoToWorld (still thinking about this one).

I run this one the most, and it is now my favourite (I'm so fickle). The reason is that you not only get paid for any time on the computer, you can actually be away from it for up to half an hour at a time and still be paid. You do have to log back in every 30 minutes though (a simple click suffices). Stable and no trouble to run.

Desktop Dollars: pays a percentage of the total company advertising revenues. The actual pay rate is estimated at $0.50 an hour for running a program that shows you ads and your monthly surfing hours are unlimited.

Another pretty good one, and I run this one fairly consistently as well. It only pays when you are both active at the computer (not just surfing) and moving the mouse (at least every minute). It doesn't work when you are doing a lot of straight typing however. You also have to click on a number of ads, but not a great many. Good (instant) stats available. Limitations: It's a bit big for my liking; however, this is the beta version, so maybe they will make the final version thinner.

The best example of a purely "Paid to Surf" program is this one from AllAdvantage.

This company started the whole "Paid to Surf" thing and they are consistently ranked among the very best of these types of programs; they have a proven record of reliability. They only pay when you are actively surfing though, so that does not suit people who want to be paid for all activity on the computer.

Be sure to at least consider BePaid.com (they claim a minimum of $20 per hour to look at advertisements). This program will be available starting in May, but you can sign up now.

It may prove to be an exaggeration (wouldn't that be the first on the Internet?) but I figure it's worth signing up now before they become over subscribed. I still have not received notification that I can download it yet.

Totally useless waist of time and effort. They claim to pay up to $1.25 per hour as long as you are on line and active at the computer (not just surfing). Yeh right!

Good Points: The bar is relatively small, movable, and you can sit it over other bars and collect from both. Well I hope the following will go some way towards showing you that I am  trying to give you an honest assessment and not just fishing for referrals:

Bad Points: I wrote to Pay Bar and asked them why I appeared to be getting less than 10 cents an hour (much less as it later turned out). What happened to the $1.25 an hour and up? Their reply: "In short, the $1.25 an hour is based on the number of direct and indirect referrals that you have. Some of our members with several referrals have been earning this amount because their referrals have been just as dedicated as they have been to earning money while surfing." So there you have it; I guess I didn't read the fine print. Anyway, you would need a heck of a lot of referrals to get up to $1.25 an hour.

GoToWorld.com: You Get Paid for every hour that you and your referral base use the MiniPortal (up to 40 hours per month). As long as you have the MiniPortal running and have an active Internet connection, you can earn cash every minute you are using your computer, even if you are performing other tasks. My assesment is still pending on this one.

Cash Surfers: Beware, I was treated very unfairly by Cash Surfers for accidentally signing up twice under my own name instead of using another family member. They waited until I had accumulated over 100 hours and then cancelled my accounts for "cheating." Not only that, but they wouldn't listen to my appeal and what's even worse, they posted my name on their "Cheater's List" - very humiliating.

One More Plug for Maxref:

Whether you have been online for years or are just starting out, you are probably used to PAYING an Internet Service Provider to be online. Now YOU CAN GET PAID for all the time you spend online. How is that possible:

Well the reason is, in a nutshell - ADVERTISING DOLLARS.

What many companies have come to realize is that people are spending more time online, and less time watching television.  Ask yourself: how many hours a month do I surf the Internet, and how many hours of TV since I started to surf ? It is actually more cost effective for the advertisers to just PAY YOU to watch their ads on the computer than to keep putting out more TV ads hoping you might come back. Not only can you actually get paid to surf (and remember you can run several of these programs at once) you can pick up a percentage of what any person you refer earns, and also of any earnings from their referrals (and so on and so on....). Depending on the company, you can get paid through as much as 6 or 7 levels of referrals.
