Reviews:

The Marriage Menders - Patricia Wendorf's new novel combines excitement of a detective thriller with a subtle and perceptive analysis of marriage and family life. It is a vivid portrait of eighteenth-century rural life in parallel with a modern tale of relationships between the generations - stunning sequel to the well-received  The Toll House. Shaken by revelations about her mother's past, Imogen decides to move to Taunton. A new job, a new house, a new start - and perhaps a new lease of life for a marriage that is sinking under the weight of unspoken resentment. But rather than mending her marriage, Imogen puts it at risk in a reckless affair with a colleague. While her husband, Niall, throws himself enthusiastically into restoring their derelict farmhouse, she is obsessed with a man whose behaviour becomes increasingly irrational. By the time she realises what danger she is in, Imogen is too far down the slippery slope to stop. Alarmed by her daughter's uncharacteristic behaviour, Nina starts her own investigation. When she discovers unsettling parallels with a past tragedy, she is determined to prevent history repeating itself.

Imogen and Niall have chucked it all and are settling in the beautiful little town of Taunton. Niall adores their farmhouse and directs all of his time, money and attention toward restoring it to its traditional state. And soon enough, like their crumbling old home, their neglected marriage is nearly in ruins. Since Niall is oblivious to the problem and doesn't seem interested in mending the relationship, Imogen looks elsewhere for resolution and fulfillment. She finds it temporarily in the arms of another man, but before long, realizes that he's nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing in Patricia Wendorf's The Marriage Menders.

A novel of real quality - The Times; Beguilingly understated ... an Aga-saga with attitude - Sunday Telegraph; Highly charged, lots of drama - Mail on Sunday.

The Toll House -  The Toll House is two books in one. It is the story of a woman who buys an old house, then becomes obsessed with the story of a previous occupant whom she reads about in an old book about the town's history. Part romance, part mystery, part historical fiction, this is a novel that fans of Susanna Kearsley and Barbara Erskine will definitely want to read.
